Ten Pound Factor releases their debut album
The Ten Pound Factor have just released their debut album, āFED āTIL WEāRE DEAD". The duo is comprised of two brothers, Ryan and Chris Chisolm. The music is an intricate layering of instrumentation and vocal harmony: acoustic and electric guitars, bass guitars, keyboards, drums, and percussion. These harmonies are woven to create a sound all its own. The vocal harmonies have a meaning themselves, blending with the music in a Beach Boys style. Yet refreshingly youāll hardly find any ālove songsā here; the lyrics focus primarily on life issues.
We receive a lot of material for review, but were quite impressed with this one. The melodies were pleasing enough to satify our musical cravings. While some may find influences from the āglam rockā era of the 80ās, we can take it back even further to groups like City Boy, Be Bop Deluxe and similiar late 70 rock groups. Like the old Prego commercial says, itās all in there.

A series of 5 concerts from Jan 18-22nd has helped raise over $10,000 towards the Tsunami relief effort. The music performed was a mix of American and and Hindi or Urdu music, with the former being contributed to by CYBERMIDI. In total, about 20,000 attended this Paksistani concert series, with most of the contributions by college students.
Ali Moeen, a musician and CYBERMIDI member participated in the event, and programmed much of the Hindi music. "We feel the concerts were a huge success. While the amount raised may seem modest, the average income in this area is quite small, and the funds raised were quite generous in relation. More events are scheduled and with the help of CYBERMIDI we are hoping to raise somewhat near to $50,000 and we will because we are determined."
Special Thanks to Mr. Ajay Rao who greaty participated and orgainized the event.
Credits go to Nafs(an underground band). Pictured from left to right: Faraz(guest performer), Ali Moeen), Nobel(Guest Performer) and Sir Ajay Rao(vocalist).
To get the real power out of the MIDI protocol for composing and reproducing music, you need additional software. A MIDI file is simply a file of all the commands needed to play a certain sequence of music. A PC can store these and then transmit them to MIDI instruments. Alternatively, these can be transmitted to a PC sound card/speaker system, which will play them through MIDI Player software such as vanBasco's Karaoke Player.
So what is this MIDI that started it all? MIDI stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface. MIDI is a hardware/software combination.
The hardware is a MIDI cable. The MIDI cable looks like a 5-pin cable, but it is not an ordinary 5-pin cable. It is specially grounded and shielded for efficient data transmission, critical for music interpretation. It is an asynch serial x, with baud rate 31.25 kbaud. This is not a speed that can be created by the PC; hence, the PC controlling MIDI instruments must be fitted with a MIDI card. This sound card creates the special 31.25-baud rate. The interface is 10 bits - 1 start bit, 8 data bits, and 1 stop bit. These move at 320 microseconds per serial byte, in a current loop of 5 mA. The MIDI cable's stated maximum length is 50 feet, but for optimal data transmission, 20 feet is the effective maximum. Most MIDI cables are 5 or 10 feet.
