Hey guys! Today I'm going to show you 5 mixing tips that will help you clean up your mixes almost instantaneously. You will have probably heard them in some form or another before as these are quite common solutions (because they WORK) but I hope to perhaps shed a little more light on them than others in the past. Have a read and let me know how they work for you!

1.) Getting To Know Your High Pass Filter

One of the hardest concepts to grasp as a beginning mixer is the power of an EQ and when to use it. EQs can alter the tone and color of a sound by either boosting or cutting wide or narrow margins of a frequency. Every DAW out there, no matter what you use, will have some sort of built in EQ plugin. Look for the Lo-cut/High-Pass filter, or if your DAW has a parametric EQ, you can pull that up as well. The purpose of the lo-cut filter is to get rid of unwanted frequencies/noise in sounds that have no business occupying that space.

Type of digital recording studio

In this case, of course, some of you already know that a digital recording studio is generally divided into two types, namely a digital home recording studio and professional digital recording studio.

Electing to build a studio of one of the types mentioned above must be done in accordance with the needs/functions, and of course, adjusted to the funds you have.

The purpose of the function is based on whether the studio will be used to record only, for recording and mixing, or for recording, mixing, and mastering.

April 18, 2018 -- The International Songwriting Competition (ISC), widely recognized as the most prestigious and respected songwriting competition in the world, is pleased to announce its 2017 winners. Created in 2002, ISC received more than 16,000 entries from almost 140 countries.

The Grand Prize winners this year are Nicholas Miller (better known as Illenium), Annika Wells, Kate Morgan, and Michael Biancaniello for the song “Crawl Outta Love Ft. Annika Wells." Illenium (along with co-writers Keeley Bumford, Henri Lanz, and William Rappaport) is also the First Place winner in the Electronic Dance Music (EDM) category for his song “Fractures Ft. Nevve.” The Grand Prize consists of $25,000 in cash (USD) and over $35,000 in additional prizes.

The winning song “Crawl Outta Love” was released on Illenium’s sophomore album Awake via his own label Kasaya Recordings in tandem with Seeking Blue Records. The song is described as a deep, earth-shattering ballad with piano melodies and future bass breakdowns. It is relatable because lyrically and melodically it conveys the pain and desperation of a relationship breaking apart and the difficulty of walking away.

Gargantuan in spirit, triumphant in turn, explosive in its delivery and commercial in its nature, 'Wings' took over the world in the mid seventies. With the era defining behemoth 'Band On The Run' still hungrily devouring the charts, Paul McCartney was armed with guitarist Jimmy McCulloch in toe, giving Wings Mark II their live zenith.

With sure blown confidence, McCartney turned to New Orleans as the new location in which to record Wings' fourth album (the album featured two drummers, the first Geoff Britton played on three songs, before Joe English took to the drumsticks and played on the remainder of the record. McCartney liked the anglophile surnames alright- funnily enough, English was American!). Wings released their fourth album 'Venus and Mars' in 1975. A fine collection of seventies rock songs, it brought Wings forward as one of the seventies greats.
