Staten Island

Getting your music played on the radio is sometimes simply a matter of luck and timing.

A few months back, I teamed up with a friend by the name of Rob Santangelo. Rob had a song that he wanted to record in hopes of it becoming the theme song for the Staten Island Yankees (a minor league baseball team here in Staten Island, NY). We recorded the song as "The Ferrymen". CYBERMIDI did the sequencing, and we added vocals and live instruments to the final version.

It didn't develop much interest...until a local radio station over here - z100 and the Z morning zoo began to play a song parody on the borough, which many people were offended by. Well, we jumped on it, ran over to the z100 studios and handed them our "pro Staten Island" demo. They immediately started to play it on the air and it has become quite popular locally. (actually, that's as far as it can go anyway since the rest of the country could care less about Staten Island).

A local newspaper picked up on the song war and they are coming by tonight to interview us for a followup. It just shows you that everyone is entitled to their 15 minutes of fame.
